EDDIES POLAROIDS

The book reveals the colorful graffiti from Munich's subways in the 90s.

EGU - EURO GRAFFITI UNION

The EGU association was founded in October 1986 by Dr. Peter Kreuzer in Munich. Together with Konrad Kittl (2nd Chairman) and the personal assistant and press spokesman of the President of the Academy of Fine Arts Karsten Rothe (3rd Chairman), Kreuzer wanted to give young writers the opportunity to paint legal murals and receive commissions.

The association's declared aim was to enable the writers to create ‘the youth artwork of our time in daylight and without haste or fear’.  Workshops and events were also organised for members so that they could exchange ideas and learn new techniques. Within a short time, the association had around 400 members in Munich and EGU local groups were also founded in other cities (such as Hamburg, Mainz, Dortmund and Heidelberg).

Many of the writers active at the time were members of the EGU (including Loomit and WON ABC). As several writers had already come into conflict with the law in the past, they were now trying to paint pictures legally and gain recognition for their skills. It was thanks to Kreuzer's special commitment that many commissions could be arranged. Clients included the City of Munich, the German Federal Post Office, private companies and the Catholic Church. Despite initial successes, the association became increasingly less important over the years.  Many members left the EGU and often returned to painting pictures illegally. (source wikipedia)
