RICHARD HAMBLETON

In 1984 and 1985, NYC based artist Richard Hambleton travelled to Europe several times and painted his famous Shadowmen in several countries. In Germany on the Berlin Wall, in Düsseldorf, in Cologne and around 20 Shadowmen in Munich.

He had left one Shadowman, painted on a wooden construction fence in downtown Munich, which was observed by gallery owner Richard Grimm. After several discussions with the construction foreman, Grimm purchased the fence for 1.200 DM.

PATRICK HARTL

patrickhartl.com, IG @stylefighting

Patrick Hartl is a contemporary artist with a passion for handwriting and lettering. As of age 15, he was painting graffiti and learning the ropes of art within the urban sphere. His graphic studies revealed a love for calligraphy and stylised writing with deep roots in the gothic script of his native Germany. Patrick Hartl connects old craftsmanship with modern street style.
On closer inspection, Patrick’s seemingly monochrome works turn out to be the result of a multitude of layers of paint and a colourful diversity. His favourite canvas is a ten-years-old wall, which has been bombed, cleaned, bombed again, crashed, washed, damaged, but which always tells a new and unique story. As a master of handcrafted designs and analogue works, and one of the foremost urban calligraphers, Patrick Hartl has been involved in making art for more than two decades.

HEAVEN MEETS EARTH

Cyrill Schäfer, Father of St. Ottilien Monastery in Upper Bavaria, invited twelve graffiti and street art artists in 2012 to get creative on around 1000 square meters of wall space as part of “heaven meets earth - Himmel trifft Erde”. They included Cone & Nychos from The Weird, Herakut, Loomit, Flying Förtress, M-City from Poland, Interesni Kazki from Ukraine, EWG and Scheme from Russia.

St. Ottilien is located very close to the Geltendorf trainstation, which became famous in 1985 when the first whole car was painted by seven young artists. One of them was Loomit, who captured the Geltendorf train and the year 1985 as a souvenir in his picture at the bottom left.

HITZEROT

hitzerot.com, IG @hitzerot_

Hitzerot is an independent publishing house specializing in print publications related to graffiti. With over 200 titles, Hitzerot is one of the largest shops and publishers in Europe.
The publisher is named after a popular spray paint color in Berlin in the early 1990s. In 1994, the red spray paint color Hitzerot ("heat red") from the brand Auto K was withdrawn from the market because it contained too many harmful substances. The graffiti scene referred to the paint as Hitzerot, and its official name was HT 650°C. HT became popular due to its high opacity and incomparable luminosity, often being used to outline huge silver images.
