WERKSVIERTEL

The Werksviertel is an arts district that hosts a variety of cultural events and exhibitions, including concerts, performances and festivals. Once an industrial area housing the Pfanni potato product factory, the site evolved in the 1990s into a nightlife hub with the Kunstpark Ost and Kultfabrik, where graffiti artists from around the world painted the abandoned factory walls. Since the early 2010s, the area has been redeveloped into a creative, mixed-use neighborhood, blending residential, commercial, and cultural spaces while preserving its legacy as a street art mecca. Co-ordinated by Loomit and home to events such as the Hands Off The Wall Festival, the Werksviertel showcases a diverse range of works by local and international artists.

WONABC

wonabc.com, IG @won_abc

Won ABC is a pioneering German graffiti and street artist who began his career in 1984 with his first graffito.

He became active in the graffiti scene at the Hall of Fame on the flea market grounds in the mid 80s. In 1988, he and Cowboy69 founded the legendary crews ABC and The Subway Rockers with their work leaving a deep impact on the local and international graffiti scenes.
After graduating from the Munich Academy of Fine Arts in 1995, where he studied under Professor Robin Page, Won held a unique exhibition displaying his police files from when he was caught spray-painting.
Today Won is world-renowned for his distinctive style. His incredibly complex artistic universe lies at the intersection of graffiti, macabre comics and visionary symbolic painting. He has participated in European and international exhibitions and projects in cities such as Guatemala, Thailand, and Jamaica. He has also authored two books: Colour Kamikaze (2000) and Zombielove (2013).

"As a 4-year-old, my parents took me to a large Picasso exhibition, it was the first time I had seen such paintings. The cryptic mysticism, the magic and the power of the works made a deep impression on me even then and nurtured in me the desire to do something similar."

WWII

In 1945, US soldiers left their names, sometimes alongside a date or the name of their unit, in the cellar of the music school in Munich's art district. The cellar is closed to the public and has only been opened once.
